Machete Kicks Ass! And Don’t Text!

Machete_poster

Machete is a exploitation style movie, similar to director Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror.

Danny Trejo stars in his first lead role as the title character; Machete an legendary “Mexican Federale” agent who loses his position after a run in with Torrez (Steven Segal) a very powerful drug lord with deep pockets and connections . Now turned renegade, Machete illegally works odd jobs in Texas. Machete is hired by Michael Benz (Jeff Fahey), a local businessman for $150,000 to assassinate corrupt racist Senator McLaughlin (Robert De Niro).  The murder contract is simply a set up, in an  attempt help Senator McLaughlin’s  anti-immigration political campaign gain public support.

With the help of Luz aka Shé (Michelle Rodriguez), Padre Benito del Toro (Cheech Marin), Machete’s “holy” brother and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Sartana (Jessica Alba), Machete clears his name and gets revenge agents Benz and Senator McLaughlin in unbelievable style. The movie also stars Don Johnson, and a very naked Lindsay Lohan.

With so many crazy over exagerated action scenes, that there are too many to keep track. The soundtrack is essential to help set the mood perfectlyfor every scene, be it serious, comedic, or lusty.

Within the first two minutes of the film, decapitations and boobies are rampant.

Machete will return with two sequels in Machete Kills, & Machete Kills Again.

This film gets two thumbs up and is highly recommened by Ringside Report Radio.

Predators Movie Review

If you are a huge fan of the Predator series of movies, then Predators is a great movie for you; if you have never seen one, prepare to suspend all disbelief.

The Predator alien is a highly intelligent war machine- there are two types of Predators, the larger super Predators and the classic small ones; they have a long going blood feud, which comes into play during this movie.

The movie is about 10 of planet earth’s most dangerous killers that are dropped in a mysterious jungle planet to be used as training tools for the Predators. Included in the 10 killers is a former US Army Special Forces soldier, Royce, (Adrien Brody), a Russian Spetsnaz soldier, Nikolai, (Oleg Taktarov), a Mexican drug cartel enforcer, Cuchillo, (Danny Trejo), a IDF black ops sniper, Isabelle, (Alice Braga). a RUF officer, Mombasa, (Mahershalalhashbaz Ali), a US Death Row inmate, Stans, (Walton Goggins), a silent Yakuza assassin, Hanzo, (Louis Ozawa Changchien), and an American doctor, Edwin (Topher Grace) who seems really out of place. With everyone confused with the situation, Royce decides that they should stick together and acts as the leader of the group, putting the pieces together as where they are and what is going on, as they do their best to avoid certain death at the hands of the alien Predators. After a couple of close calls, the group meets U.S. Air Cavalry Soldier named Noland (Laurence Fishburne), a survivor of over 10 hunting seasons of the Predators training game. He who reveals that there are three Predators at a time and that this planet is the training ground that has a ship that they can use to leave.

The movie has action packed fight scenes including a sword fight between Hanzo and a Predator, a wicked Predator versus Predator fight defiantly lives up to the hype, a couple twists and turns and much more.

No Arnold Schwarzenegger, but Adrien Brody gained 25lbs for the role. It is highly recommended to go see this movie in theatres, because the DVD may not do the action scenes justice.

The A-Team Movie Review – Awesome Summer Blockbuster!

The A-Team Movie is one of the best of the summer blockbusters to hit theatres this year. With exciting action scenes, well thought out strategies, outlandish tactics, and witty jokes, this movie is great for fans of the 80s show and action flicks.

The movie is about four reputable ex-elite combat U.S. Special Forces Army stationed in Iraq that specialize in the ridiculous. Colonel John “Hannibal” Smith (Liam Neeson), Lieutenant Templeton “Faceman” Peck (Bradley Cooper), Sergeant Bosco “BA or Bad Attitude” Baracus (Quinton “Rampage” Jackson) and Captain H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdoch (Sharlto Copley) are the A-Team. Hannibal is the leader of the group with all the unorthodox plans. Face is the witty sex symbol that uses his charm and good looks. BA Baracus is an extremely talent mechanic that suffers from Pteromerhanophobia (the fear of flying). H.M Murdoch is the clinically insane, yet extremely talented pilot and good cook.

The A-Team is wrongly convicted of a crime in Iraq, as opposed to Vietnam in the TV show. After a successful, yet unofficial Black Ops mission to retrieve counterfeit U.S. Treasury plates from the Iraqis, the four are framed and go to prison. With help of the CIA they brake out of prison in outlandish fashion, and now as wanted fugitives or soldiers of fortune, their mission is to clear their names and solve the mystery of who set them up with help of Captain Charisa Sosa (Jessica Biel).

Overall this movie is action packed and funny and great for all ages.

Big Tuna gives this movie 2 Thumbs up!

Lavar Johnson returns to action after near death this Friday at Strikeforce Challengers VII

Strikeforce Challengers VII headlined by Lavar Johnson (13-3) versus Lolohea Mahe (4-0-1) and Zoila Frausto (5-0) versus Miesha Tate (8-2) to the Friday night Strikeforce Challengers VII event on Showtime, at Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.

Lavar Johnson is making his unbelievable comeback to MMA, after he was nearly killed at a family barbeque close to his home in Madera, California, when he was shot several times by Central Valley gang members on July 4th, 2009. Johnson won his last fight in May on 2009, with an 18 second knockout of Carl Seumantufa and has been cleared to train and will take on undefeated heavyweight prospect Lolohea Mahe. Johnson will have to utilize his knockout power in his punches, kicks and knees this Friday, while taking on Mahe, a veteran kickboxer weighing in at 320 pounds, out weighing Johnson, but 70 pounds.

Zoila Frausto plans on pleasing her hometown crowd by keeping her winning streak alive with her dangerous Taekwondo strikes. Her opponent Miesha Tate is a women’s state wrestling champion and has a phenomenal ground game. This is a great striker versus wrestler fight and should be very interesting. Frausto is very experienced on the ground, but will need to defend the takedown and stay on her feet as much as possible, as

Ringside Report Radio Guest “THE BIG FROG” JEFF CURRAN STOMPS TOMOHIKO HORI AT “WORLDS COLLIDE”

Chicago, IL (USA): “WORLDS COLLIDE” was certainly an appropriate title for xfo-34XFO 34, which took place this past Saturday, December 5th, live in Lakemoor, IL. Returning after a three year absence from his home promotion, “The Big Frog” Jeff Curran clashed with the extremely tough Tomohiko Hori, a Japan native who is a training partner of former Curran opponent and current WEC bantamweight contender Takeya Mizugaki. A UFC/WEC/PRIDE/StrikeForce veteran and submission specialist, Curran scrapped with Hori in a back-and-forth battle that saw both men giving and getting punishment. In the end, “The Big Frog” was able to overcome cuts and bleeding sustained in the first round to garner the much-deserved unanimous decision victory over a very game Hori. He was the busier fighter all night long, as he took Hori down several times and landed the more effective leg-kicks and strikes.

Hori (10-8-5) recently won the prestigious DEEP 135 lbs. tournament, and was prepared to go to war with his American counterpart. But the man from “The Land of the Rising Sun” wasn’t able to overcome the well-rounded skills of Curran (33-12-1), and was not able to make good on his pre-fight KO prediction. Instead, it was Curran that went home with the big victory. And with an eye toward his future, Curran is primed for his next run at greatness in the sport, and he hopes it will be back in the WEC. “I am back and ready to tear this division up,” Curran stated. “I have finally arrived.”

In the co-main event, Pat Curran, cousin to Jeff, locked horns with Travis “Care-Free” Perzynski, a much larger opponent with a lot of experience. Perzynski has competed successfully at 155 lbs. and 170 lbs., but when Curran’s originally opponent dropped out, “Care-Free” stepped up. Curran, for his part, refused to back down. Both landed some good shots in the first round, though Curran was hurt early on. He recovered, but as the fight moved into the second round, Perzynski’s (unofficially 25-3, officially 11-3) size advantage began to become apparent. It proved to be too much, though Curran (9-3) persevered, refusing to give up until he had no choice. With 22 seconds left in the second round, “Care-Free” locked in the rear-naked choke to secure the submission victory. Jeff Curran weighed in with his thoughts on Pat and his fight: “Travis is the number one ranked MMA fighter in Minnesota, and it was a great test for Pat. Pat won the first round, I guess, but the size difference was very apparent as the second round progressed. Pat needs to stay at 145 and dominate that division. I don’t consider this a setback for him because it was out of his weight class.

“WORLDS COLLIDE” also featured a dozen amateur bouts showcasing some of the top MMA prospects in the Midwest. Originally, “The Triangular Strangler” Joe Pearson and Norm Alexander were to battle in a professional featherweight matchup, but Alexander was unfortunately unable to make weight. However, the Curran bouts and the amateur fights more than made up for it. The venue was almost sold out, with 800 fans in attendance enjoying the hot action, cheering on their local favorites. “WORLDS COLLIDE” is electrified the local fight fans!

MMA SUPERSTAR JEFF CURRAN RETURNS TO THE XFO AS “WORLDS COLLIDE” Live, Saturday, December 5th in Lakemoor, IL

xfo-34

xfo-34Chicago, IL (USA): The Xtreme Fighting Organization, one of the most respected MMA promotions in existence, is bringing one of the biggest fight cards in its history to the Chicago area, as “WORLDS COLLIDE” explodes at XFO 34, live on Saturday, December 5th at the Lakemoor Banquet Facility in Lakemoor, IL. In the main event, UFC/WEC/PRIDE/StrikeForce veteran “The Big Frog” Jeff Curran (30-12-1) will battle longtime Japanese star Tomohiko Hori (10-7-5) in a culture clash to determine bantamweight supremacy in the XFO. In addition, over a dozen more MMA battles featuring the best up-and-comers in the Midwest circuit will commence, as young fighters from all over the United States will look to hone their skills in the XFO cage. Tickets for the event are on sale now for $100-VIP ringside, $75-ringside, $60-table seating, and $35-general admission, and are available at Curran Martial Arts, located at
221 Liberty Road, Crystal Lake, IL, 60014
, or by calling (815) 356-0454. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and the fights will begin at 7:30 PM. Please visit http://www.xfomma.com/ for more information.

After a three year absence from the XFO, eleven year fight veteran Jeff Curran returns to his home cage to battle a very difficult foe in Tomohiko Hori, who is a training partner of one of Curran’s toughest opponents to date, WEC bantamweight title contender Takeya Mizugaki. Curran is one of the most respected cage tacticians in the sport, with a resume that rivals nearly anyone in the sport. He’s gone toe to toe with some of the best, including Mizugaki, Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, Matt “The Terror” Serra, Hatsu Hioki, former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber, Faber protégé Joseph Benavidez, and current WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Thomas Brown. He holds victories over notable fighters such as UFC fighter Jason Dent, PRIDE veteran Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett, and current WEC stars Wagnney Fabiano and Raphael Assuncao. Curran recently signed a non-exclusive agreement with StrikeForce, and at the November 7th“StrikeForce: Fedor vs. Rogers” event, “The Big Frog” got back to his winning ways, winning by submission due to a rib-cracking knee to Dustin Neace’s body. Being one of the smaller of the elite fighters in the sport, Curran has usually had to contend with larger foes, and Hori will be no different.

Tomohiko Hori is a tough fighter who won the prestigious DEEP 135 lbs. tournament earlier this year. The Japanese standout has faced some top-flight international competition in his seven year career, crossing paths with the likes of Yujiro Kushida, Shinji Eijiri, Toshiaki Kitada, Jong Man Kim, Wataru Miki, Seiji Akao, Sami Aziz, and Masakazu Imanari. All have found out just how tough Hori is. And as far as the Japanese import is concerned, Curran is next. But he has a lot of respect for his opponent: “My impression of Jeff Curran is, he is very strong on the ground. I have to be very carful of his submission, especially a triangle.” But he is excited to headline a show in the States. “I accepted this opportunity to fight Curran because he is one of the top fighters at this weight class, and also, I always wanted to fight in America. And I am happy and pumped up that this is the headliner of the show.” Hori trains with WEC star Mizugaki, and with Curran wanting to avenge his loss to Mizugaki, taking down one of those closest to him is a step in that direction. But Hori has very different plans for his opponent at “WORLDS COLLIDE. “I know striking is the strongest part of my game, so this is going to be a hard fight with me winning at the end with a knockout.”

“WORLDS COLLIDE” will also feature more than a dozen bouts showcasing some of the top MMA prospects in the Midwest. Additional fights are being added, and the full fight card will be released shortly. In addition, information on the pre-event press conference and weigh-ins will be made public soon, as well. “WORLDS COLLIDE” is sure to electrify local fight fans!

UFC VETERAN JUNIE BROWNING GETS A BIG VICTORY AT “ONSLAUGHT” Former Middleweight Champ Mojo Horne Also Wins

Indiana (USA): MMA Big Show’s latest offering, “ONSLAUGHT,” mmabigshow-logobroadcasted live on GoFightLive.com, took place this past Saturday at the Belterra Casino in Belterra, Indiana. In the main event, former UFC fighter and TUF competitor Junie Browning finished off a tough young local favorite Scott Cornwell in the first round after a valiant effort. The co-main event saw former MMA Big Show Middleweight Champion Mojo Horne get back in the win column, as he conquered Kevin Barkdull in a first round submission victory. In addition, MMA Big Show Amateur Lightweight Champion “The Samurai” Chris Bennett dominated Brian Karmolinski in their bout, prompting the post-fight interviewer to question when the 17-fight amateur veteran will go pro. In all, 14 entertaining bouts were put on, and a great show was enjoyed by the fans in attendance, as well as the GoFightLive viewers.

The crowd was firmly in the corner of the local fighters, as Bennett, Horne, and Cornwell garnered the majority of the cheers. “The Samurai” proved once again that he deserves the hot-shot status that he has gained, and he appears ready to move on to the professional ranks. But he is in no hurry. “I’m only 19; there’s plenty of time for me to go pro,” he told the post-fight interviewer after checking on Karmolinski following his TKO victory. Known for his jiu-jitsu skills, “The Samurai” opted to put his opponent away with strikes. In short, he showcased a well-rounded fight game. Regardless of when Bennett decides to make the jump, he has a bright future ahead of him.

After starting his pro career with six straight wins, Mojo Horne had lost his last two bouts. In short, he was in desperate need of a victory. Standing in his way was Barkdull, a tough opponent with good skills. But Horne’s hunger was evident, and he used his ground game to stifle his opponent and gain the rear-naked choke submission victory. Clearly relieved after his victory, Horne thanked God and exulted in his huge win. He also had a message for MMA Big Show Owner/Promoter Jason Appleton: “Put me on the January 9th MMA Big Show event.” Whenever his next challenge does come, Mojo showed he will be ready.

Karmolinski and Barkdull were extremely classy in defeat, but Browning lived up to his “Lunatic” moniker in his post-fight interview. While respectful of his opponent and the promotion, Browning made offensive statements in the interview, which did nothing but increase the boos he had been receiving from the moment he appeared at “ONSLAUGHT.” Browning exhibited great ground skills, and was able to neutralize everything Cornwell threw at him. The boos of the crowd seemed to give him motivation, and “The Lunatic” responded with an entertaining performance. Where he goes from here is anyone’s guess, but there will be lots of eyes on the young fighter, no matter what.

The full results for the “ONSLAUGHT” fight card are as follows:

MMA Big Show: Onslaught. Saturday, Nov. 28th on GoFightLive.com

Indiana (USA): MMA Big Show, one of the fastest-growing fight promotions in the United States, will present “ONSLAUGHT” this Saturday, November 28th, live from the Belterra Casino in Belterra, Indiana.

The event will feature a main event of former UFC and TUF competitor Junie Browning (3-1) clashing with local up-and-comer Scott Cornwell (1-0). The co-main event will showcase ex-training partner of Rich Franklin and former MMA Big Show Middleweight Champion Mojo Horne (6-2) in a battle with Kevin Barkdull (3-1). “ONSLAUGHT” will be shown live on GoFightLive.com.mmabigshow-logo

Junie Browning trains with TapouTTrainingCenter extraordinaire Shawn Tompkins, and was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter reality show. In his elimination bout, he defeated Jose Aguilar by TKO, as Aguilar was not able to answer the bell for the 2nd round. Browning was then made the first pick of the lightweights for Team Mir. He was successful in his quarterfinal match-up with Rolando Delgado, winning by decision after 3 rounds, dropping and nearly finishing Delgado in the 2nd round. On December 13, 2008, Browning took on fellow Team Mir cast-mate Dave Kaplan on the main card of The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 Finale, winning by armbar. Browning and Kaplan both won $25,000 Fight of the Night honors. A lot has been made of Junie’s recent legal troubles, and MMA Big Show President Jason Appleton is fully aware of his situation.“Booking Junie was a good decision and I stand by it,” explained Appleton. “I believe he is going to show everyone that he has worked hard for this fight and deserves the opportunity. Scott Cornwell and Junie are going to make a memorable battle regardless of the outcome.”

This will be Browning’s first post-UFC fight, and he will be looking to show he wants to improve both as a fighter in the cage, and a person out of it. Regardless, he’s excited to be fighting in MMA Big Show. “I love it. I’ve been to MMA Big Show before,” said Browning. “It’s an awesome, awesome show. I’m really excited about it, especially because it’s close to home and I haven’t had the opportunity to allow my friends and family to come watch me fight, so I’m pretty psyched about that.” In regards to his legal issues, Browning had this to say: “I have a lot to learn. It’s not like already have twenty or something fights and I’ve been doing this forever. I’m still trying to learn how to be more professional and stuff. I have no excuses as to why I made a mistake. I’m not perfect. What’s important is I’m trying to improve myself.” And Browning is confident about Saturday’s bout with Cornwell. Regarding his opponent, Browning stated, “He seems like a tough guy. He’s got skill, but he’s just not on the same level. He’ll be able to hang in there…I’ll even give him a round because he’s sorta tough. But he hasn’t trained or fought the level of guys I’m used to.”

But Browning’s first challenge in MMA Big Show will be no pushover, as he will face fearsome fighter Scott Cornwell at Saturday’s “ONSLAUGHT.” The Cincinnati native started Tae Kwon Do at the age of three under Master David Huffstutler. As a teenager, Cornwell quickly progressed through the ranks, and currently holds a 3rd degree black belt, winning several local and national tournaments. He also had a very impressive high school wrestling career, where he competed for multiple national teams in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. His amateur mixed martial arts career began in 2007 while training under 4th degree black belt and renowned MMA instructor Rob Gerhardt, and he won his first five amateur fights, amassing an impressive record of 7-2. In preparation for his pro debut, Scott began additional training with Rod Housley at Team Vision while continuing to train and teach at Hamilton-Fairfield Tae Kwon Do. In short, Scott is an excellent striker and wrestler, and is well-versed in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He is ready or the challenge that Browning will bring to the cage.
