Slice (4-1), fresh off his three round unanimous decision victory over Houston Alexander at the TUF10 finale last December, will be in with a familiar foe on May 8th, as he takes on his Ultimate Fighter castmate, Matt Mitrione in a heavyweight bout made official today.

Mitrione (1-0), an NFL veteran, made his proper mixed martial arts debut on the TUF10 finale card and showed impressive poise and power as he knocked out Marcus Jones in the second round, and he hopes to make another statement when he squares off with Kimbo this spring.

Dominick Cruz became the new WEC bantamweight champion by defeating Brain Bowles via TKO due to injury tonight at WEC 47 in Columbus, Ohio. Dominick Cruz picked Bowles apart with excellent technical striking in the first two rounds of the fight which was all he needed for the victory. Bowles was unable to answer the bell to begin the third round after suffering a broken hand in the fight.

Joseph Benavidez opened up Miguel Torres with a big elbow and locked in a tight guillotine choke to beat the former bantamweight champion in the second round. Benavidez and Torres fought an evenly matched first round but it was Benavidez dominating in the second to take the fight. The loss is Torres’ second in a row but only third professional defeat in 40 bouts while Benavidez improves to 12-1 and could be next in line for a title shot.

Jens Pulver lost his fifth straight fight, losing to Javier Vazquez via first round submission. Vazquez utilized some great Jiu-Jitsu skill to keep Pulver on the ground and lock in an arm-bar to beat the former UFC lightweight champion. Pulver delivered a heartfelt speech after the fight, thanking his family, fans and friends. Pulver did not confirm a retirement but did say that he loved his fans too much to “put them through this again.”

L.C. Davis defeated Deividas Taurosevicius via majority decision (29-29, 29-28, 29-28) after 15 minutes that was mostly spent in a clinch against the cage. Davis was hurt in the second round by two knees to the groin that were not called or not seen by the referee.

Bart Palaszewski took a beating from Karen Darabedyan but was able to lock in a miraculous arm-bar with just 20 seconds remaining in the first round to score the upset victory. Darabedyan landed a nice punching combination and took Palaszewski down to the mat and landed several hard punches and elbows from inside the guard. Palaszewski was able to hold on and secure the submission to improve his pro record to 34-14 and hand Darabedyan only his second loss in eleven professional bouts.

Main Card Results

Dominick Cruz def. Brian Bowles via TKO (injury-broken hand) after 5:00 in Round 2

Joseph Benavidez def. Miguel Torres via submission (guillotine choke) after 2:57 in Round 2

Javier Vazquez def. Jens Pulver via submission (arm-bar) after 3:41 in Round 1

Bart Palaszewski def. Karen Darabedyan via submission (arm-bar) after 4:40 in Round 1

L.C. Davis def. Deividas Taurosevicius via majority decision (29-29, 29-28, 29-28)

Preliminary Results

Ricardo Lamas def. Bendy Casimir via KO (knee) in Round 1

Fredson Paixao def. Courtney Buck via submission (rear-naked choke) in Round 1

Being a rich prick that made little kids cry when he cheated them in a dribbling contest helped make Ted DiBiase one of the most memorable characters in World Wrestling Entertainment history.

Inside the ring DiBiase was one of the most hated wrestlers—buying the WWE Championship off the late Andre The Giant was one of his evil schemes to show that money could buy him anything. Outside of the ring DiBiase was almost a complete opposite. Poor most of the time and a highly touted football star who trained countless hours to attend West Texas Academy. Wrestling ran in the DiBiase family—both his stepfather and mother were professional wrestlers. School and football could only keep DiBiase away from his true passion for so long until he decided to not attend his senior year. DiBiase took a gamble on a career that did not give much back.

However, thanks to his dad’s connections and friends in the right places he excelled and retells many humorous and bizarre stories along the way. Trying to out-drink the 400-pound, 7-foot Andre the Giant had a hilarious result. This book repeats a lot of his beginnings in wrestling found in DiBiase’s first autobiography, but this time around Ted’s version of events are expanded by his family, friends and rivals who add much more to understanding the real DiBiase.

DiBiase also refrains from putting over how much God changed and saved his marriage and his life. Although DiBiase mentions he was unfaithful to his wife he refrains completely from going down the route of other wrestling novelists like Bret Hart who used explicit details with each affair. The ending of his career as a professional wrestler only opened new doors for DiBiase. He retired in 1993, but continued to play a role in wrestling all the way up to 2006. His insecurities about his abilities as WWE producer and having to put up with Vince McMahon flipping out over the Undertaker not doing a chokeslam helped mark the end of his time in the business.

Unlike many wrestling books, DiBiase is able to pull off a decent ending thanks to have his three pro wrestling sons writing their own two cents on him. Far from the longest book, but still enough wrestling and personal stories to keep fans of The Million Dollar Man satisfied.

The biggest Montreal professional wrestling event so far in 2010 goes down this Friday at Centre Pierre-Charbonneau as Top of the World wrestling federation presents their fifth spectacular.

The show is headlined by former World Wrestling Entertainment World Tag Team Champion and promoter of ToW Slyvain Greiner in a double casket match against Florida Championship Wrestling tryout Darkko and a Quebec Champion named Samson. Grenier stated last night on Ringside Report that “the last man standing” wins the match.

Total Non-Stop Action superstar Hernandez will go one-on-one with Quebec legend Pierre Carl Ouellet. Grenier is looking forward to this match as both men have similar styles. Kevin McKough stated last night that both men like to jump from high up, Hernandez with his suicide dive to the outside and PCO with his cannonball off the top rope. If it happens fans will get their money’s worth.

In other action, TNA superstar Samoa Joe returns from his kidnapping to face Quebec wrestler Franky the Mobster. Former WWE superstar Big Daddy V aka Mabel is in action against Quebec wrestler Steve Rush. Quebec legend Edouard Carpentier will be in attendance and will be honoured for his contributions to pro wrestling.

An extreme 10-team battle royal will determine new ToW tag team champions. The favourites going into the match are Jeremy Prophet and Sexxxy Eddy known as Sex Factor. Prophet also had a tryout with FCW and was recently backstage at a TNA house show event. Prophet has already wrestled and defeated Sonjay Dutt, Lanny Poffo and teamed with Mr. Anderson in recent months. Due to his superior wrestling ability and experience wrestling all over Canada and a bit in the United States, Prophet gives his team a clear edge over the competition that will mostly be students from Grenier’s school.

Tickets for ToW are $10 and according to Grenier are nearly all gone. Tickets can be bought at 514-872-6644 or at the door. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. with a free ToW Fanfest in the afternoon and an afterparty at Club La Boom. For more information check out www.towlutte.com for details.

Marcoux connected with a body kick but was quickly taken down to the mat. Whitlock kept his opponent down as Marcoux struggled to get to his feet. Whitlock worked to sink his hooks in and locked in a rear-naked choke forcing Marcoux to tap out instantaneously.
